Session one from Bethany one!
Warrior Status Challenge!
Good morning men and welcome to our first challenge. During the next several months we will take a closer look at what it means to become a warrior for God!
First Challenge: To pray for each other.
I’m excited and I pray you are too! Speaking of prayer, that brings us to our first challenge. There is nothing more powerful than men who not only pray, but are committed to praying for each other everyday during this challenge!
How are we going to pull that off? First, we are going to break our twelve (12) man group down into three (3) man groups.
Group one: Matt Lawrence, Will Grasty and Dan Yee.
Group two: Chuck Wisemen, Steve Mangini, and Scott Doucet.
Group three: Karl Burrows, Anton Brown, and Chaz Wyckoff.
Group four: Jonathan Ruga, Mark Reed, and Angle Pagan.
Why groups? It’s easier and more effective when we zero in on two prayer requests rather than twelve. In other words we can put the pedal to the metal in prayer when we only need to focus on two “Main” prayer requests, prayer request that will become a priority during each weekly challenge.
Of course, throughout any given week, day or night, we can submit any needed prayer request to the entire group. Any emergency or pressing issue should sent to the entire group.
Now, back to your assignment, which is to back each other up in prayer and encourage each other as much as you can! You can do that by contacting each other every Tuesday and Friday. Each three (3) man group will set a few minutes aside to check in with each other via text. You're going to see how each other is doing, encourage and pray for each other as needed. (The Tuesday - Friday Text)
Each man to submit and commit! In other words submit one prayer request and commit to praying for the ones you receive for a period of seven (7) days.
At the end of that week, you can choose to keep your prayer request the same or change it depending how God is leading you or depending on what's going on in your life at that moment.
Please, every time you receive an answer to prayer, (because you will), share it with all of us. That will encourage the entire group and fuel our faith.
Second Challenge: Find a promise you can stand on.
When it comes to prayer, one of the most powerful things we could do is stand on a promise from God. For example, your prayer request could be about trying to save money. If so we need to find a promise, such as proverbs 21:20 where it basically says a wise person saves and a foolish person spends all he has, and then stand on it.
Using that saving example can see how it’s God’s will to save? And why is that so powerful? Again, because you now have a promise from God. A promise to help you when you pray about saving, because you’re praying in line with His will (Again 1 John 5:14).
You could also do the same thing with marriage, to find employment or any other issue you’re praying about. Your job is to link up your prayer with a promise and then meet the condition found inside the promise.
For example Psalm 34:9 states that those who fear the Lord lack nothing. Well, who is that promised to? It’s not promised to everyone, right? No, only to those who fear the Lord, meaning those who fear the Lord have meet that condition contained within that promise.
Third Challenge: Read your bible daily.
Daily bible reading is a challenge in itself, but it’s powerful! It transforms the way we think and helps us to obey God, which if you remember attracts the favor of God! The bible has 1189 total chapters, three chapters per day and you'll have read the entire bible in roughly 13 months!
OK, those are your assignments, and today is Monday January 4th, 2016. I would like each one of you to start this challenge on Wednesday January 6th. This will give you some time to choose a verse, time to submit a prayer request and time to receive your group's prayer requests.
Fourth Challenge: Think upon one verse per week.
Not just read it, but think about it, ask God questions about it and kick it around in your head until it gets planted into your heart (See Joshua 1:8 & Psalm 119:11)
So here’s what you need to do.
1) Submit a prayer request to me and to the group you're listed in every Wednesday (Your groups will change from week to week).
2) Submit a cell phone number that I can share and give to your group for prayer challenges.
3) Submit a promise from God that lines up with your prayer request. (Don't worry God will lead you)
4) Start reading your bible beginning with the book of Matthew and reading three (3) chapters each day. Submit what you've read every Wednesday by clicking here, "My Bible Reading Challenge"
5) Commit to praying everyday to become the type of man that pleases God more often than not. More than an Enoch, more than a David, and more than anyone ever has on the planet! (Remember to strive because you won't always arrive)
6) Commit to meditating upon one verse per week (See Joshua 1:8) This week we will meditate upon Numbers 23:19.
Finally, submit a signed and dated contract that is between you, God, and the two other men in your group every Wednesday. Remember your prayer contract will state that you commit to pray everyday for one week for the men listed in your group. List their prayer request on this contract so you can use it as a reference.
Email your contract by clicking here, "Prayer Contract Submission"
Note: we will do a new contract each and every week.
Understanding the impact of your commitment is important, that it’s better not to make a promise, than to make a promise and not keep it.
Why is that? For starters you are about to commit to praying for the men in your group before the Lord, and so if you feel you can’t keep that promise then by all means don’t promise it. The reason is found in the book of Ecclesiastes:
5 It is better to say nothing than to make a promise and not keep it. 6 Don’t let your mouth make you sin. And don’t defend yourself by telling the Temple messenger that the promise you made was a mistake. That would make God angry, and he might wipe out everything you have achieved.
Ecclesiastes 5:5-7 NLT
Of course, God is love and loves you deeply and He is committed to you as your Father, forgiving you whenever you confess your sins to Him. However, try to avoid falling into a habit of promising something to God and then not fulfilling it. You’ll be better off if you don’t promise, than if you do and don't follow through.
Take this prayer commitment serious. That being said, here is an example you can use to make this prayer commitment:
“Dear Lord, I want to thank You for allowing me to be part of this group of men. And Father, I commit to the best of my ability to pray for the men in my assigned group for the week of_______________________. I pray that You will lead me and guide me to pray for them each day this week, and I pray that you teach me how to do so. In Jesus name, amen.”
Again, every week I want you to send me a new contract. That means you’re only on the hook for one week at a time and will have the option of backing out each week for any reason that may arise.
Recap:
1) Submit a pray request to me and to your group which is listed above.
2) Submit a cell phone number that I can share and give to your group.
3) Submit a promise from God to me that lines up with your prayer request.
4) Start reading your bible.
5) Commit to praying everyday to become a man that pleases God more than Enoch, more than David and more than anyone ever has!
6) Meditate upon Numbers 23:19 NKJV
God is not a man, that He should lie,
Nor a son of man, that He should repent.
Has He said, and will He not do?
Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
This is going to be powerful brothers! OK, please submit your requirements to me by
Wednesday January 6.
Next week I'll send you a new group to pray for, followed by more instruction.
I am excited for what God is going to do through you my brother!
