Can something good hold you back?
Listen to what Jesus said in Mark 7, Verse 6, “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Verse 7, They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.’, The Lord is warning us that we can actually worship Him in vain. How? Simply by not having our hearts in the right place. And yes I've been there! I hate to admit it, but I've been one of those folks Jesus is talking about, "These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me." So what changed for me? Well, one day I noticed something that I fell upon while reading the Bible. I call it the twelve (12), three (3), one (1) principal. Twelve disciples went a lot of places with the Lord, but not everywhere. Then there was only three, Peter, James, and John. Those three went certain places with the Lord, and only those three. As an example, only those three were permitted to see Jesus transfigured, and only those three went with Jesus when he raised a little girl from the dead. And then there was one! John was the one who, as the Bible points out, always had his head resting in the chest of Jesus, close to the Lord's heartbeat. 12, 3, 1 Twelve is kinda like the entire body of Christ. Then there are those three that are a little more closer to the Lord than the twelve. And then there was only one. One who was so close to the Lord that he could heard God's very heart beat! Wow! As I said I stumbled upon that revelation one day, and my life has never been the same! Not that I've arrived, but I strive to be the one! It's what keeps me going when I make a mistake. Yes, I still a work in progress, but at least I have a goal right? I make mistakes, confess them to God and get back up again and pursue my goal. I sometimes forget, and then I remember my goal, which gets me back on track again. Goals are good. And my goal is simply to hear God's heart beat! How about you, which one do you want to be? The twelve, the three, or the one? You don't have to be perfect to get started. You don't have to have it all the together either. Just start somewhere and start today! Start by being careful of traditions, or routines that have made going to Church, reading your Bible, and even praying a religious routine. Secondly, let your walk with God come alive again, by confessing any sin you may feel is holding you back. Finally, and this is key, simply ask God for wisdom, you know for help and for practical tips on how you can make your walk with Him more powerful.. That's it. Nothing earth shattering, just ask God for wisdom on how to know Him better. Listen, I dare you to do that. I dare you to start praying, and asking Him for insight on how you can go from the twelve, to the three, all the way to the one! Do that and watch what happens! Now, for those that have some extra time and want to learn more about the 12, 3, 1 principal here's a video of a sermon I just preach at Mission Point Church a few weeks ago. It's a full sermon about 40 mins, so when you have time. If you find the extra time I believe it'll be worth it, and give you that extra push you may need. Watch Video Here! Leave me a comment here!
