How to get through a hard time.

Are you facing a difficult time right now?

Hard times come to the best of us, but there is a secret found in scripture designed to help us get through:

… Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.
(Nehemiah 8:10 New King James Version)

What does that really mean? It means that when we trust God with what is troubling us we will have joy instead of sorrow, and we will gain strength.

It's true that trusting God is powerful and produces peace, but it takes practice. Sadly pain and heart ache are some of the best tools around for building that all important trust in the Lord.

I’ve seen God move mountains, but I have to tell you usually it’s been when I was going through a tough time. A tough time where I had to make a choice to either trust God or worry.

To be honest sometimes I’ve done both. At times I’ve worried till the cows came home. Other times I’ve refused to worry and trust God by reminding myself of one thing, that God is in control.

In other words I’ve reminded myself that God is sovereign, and that’s an all important key if you’re going to kick worry to the curb.

Joy can be found in understanding that you have a sovereign God who is on your side! Here's the definition of the word sovereign,

"A person who has supreme power or authority."

Maybe this next verse will helps you understand what that means:

Who can command things to happen without the Lord's permission?
(Lamentations 3:37 New Living Translation)

Basically, who can say or doing anything without the Lord’s permission? Who can get in their car and drive to a store to get a cup of coffee if the Lord has not commanded it? Who can do anything without the Lord’s permission?

Of course, the answer is no one! Yes, we are living in a world that has pain and a lot of sorrow. However, we are also living in a universe that is ruled by a sovereign God!

A God who is willing to listen to your heart when you pour it out to Him! A God who loves to be called upon as a Father in times of trouble.

A God who is in complete, absolute total control! A God who is calling every single shot in the entire universe!

The universe is not running on electric like my house, or on gas like my car. No, it's running on permission! God's permission!

And yes you will be tempted to worry, but try taking joy in knowing that your heavenly Father has your back, and not a single thing can happen without His permission!

Even if you have to remind yourself a thousand times a day that God is in control then do it! And don't give up because it won't be long before your sorrow turns to joy!

Be blessed,
Chris Einwechter

I was very encouraged this morning reading this. I know God is in control and I often say that... But to see the words and read them aloud along with the scripture reminded me that no one can steal my joy unless I allow them. God is bigger than what I am going through. Thank you and KEEP PREACHIN'!!!

What an inspiring and encouraging word Pastor Chris! My favorite Scripture that inspires me in Isaiah 41:10-"Fear not, for I am with you, be not dismayed for I am your God" This Scripture has bought me through many tough times!

Thank youChris, God's word is presented by you in a way we can all understand, thank you for reminding us as I strive every day to remember that nothing can happen that He isn't aware of, He guides and protects us no matter what is going on, I praise Him and thank Him for all that I have and what I don't have He will provide. I have been giving out your books,( love doing this btw ) 3 are heading out to Arkansas next week and 2 are going on a plane with passengers headed to Florida on Saturday. I only have 9 books left out of the 26 you gave me last week, and they will be gone by tomorrow so you may get another call from me to get more. I will continue to give them out to people as the Lord directs and designates who should have them. I carry them with me, its a beautiful book and has taken people to learn to pray and become closer to Him, drawing closer every step of our walk with Him, I am truly blessed to be one of your helpers with this project, may God bless you always and your beautiful wife and family, love to all of you.

Thank you Pastor Chris for your powerful message! I have been trusting God and his renewed joy! As you know I lost my Mom 12/27/15 to fast and to young...broken completely I had to pray often just to get through each day! Yesterday we celebrated her life with her hospice team and I must say the Joy that came from this service was uncontainable! Sorrow can steal you JOY but when you trust your savior and get on your knees, he truly heard your prayers and mends your brokenness! Joy always comes in the morning and I am so blessed to know we will one day be with our loved ones again! No greater joy than knowing where we are going and being thankful for a Savior who loves us through the tough times! Thank you for you continued faithfulness and spreading the news of the Lotd!
God's mercy is renewed every day. His power, His love, and His grace is made available to us EVERY DAY. You are not alone. This day is a new day to serve Him fully and completely. This day is a new day for you to testify of goodness, His grace, His love, and His mercy. Amen
