In my book, Worry Less Pray More, I talk about a tool called the, "God Taught Me Tool"
And it's one of the most amazing discoveries I've ever made! Yes, through a golf swing I discovered that the Lord is willing to teach me anything. Things like golf, how to cook, or how to balance my check book, and so many other things that most of us think are illegal to ask God.
No, it's perfectly legal to ask God to teach you how to do everyday ordinary things.
However, when I told someone that God taught me how to hit a golf ball they were confused. Why? Well, to be honest we're not used to thinking about God that way.
Sure, we know He'll teach us how to read our bibles better and any other religious duty, but not how to cook or throw a baseball.
When my friend was confused about my golf swing I simply pointed that he had three daughters, and then I asked him,
"If one of your daughters asked you how to throw a softball would teach them?"
"Of course!" He said.
That's when I explained to him that it was no different with God, just listen to this awesome verse,
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.
(Psalm 32:8 New International Version)
That's a promise you can really stand on, now all you need to do is take advantage of it. How? You have to ask God to teach you things and then you have to be persistent.
My golf swing didn't change overnight, and your situation might not either. However, If you stay on it and keep asking here's what will happen, not only will you learn what your asking to be taught, but you'll begin to experience God as a Father!
My life will never be the same because of the time I spent with the Lord over my silly golf swing. Asking him questions and then watching Him show up was so amazing! I couldn't get over that fact that He was willing to spend time with me and teach me something like golf!
Fathers teach their children things all the time, like fishing or hunting, riding bikes, and all sorts of other things. It's what truly builds strong relationships with our kids. Again, God is no different.
If you desire a stronger relationship with God try asking Him to teach you something you thought He'd never would. Think about something you want to learn today and instead of getting a lesson by a pro go to the real pro, God! And then watch what happens!
I'd be willing to bet that after some time you'll be able to say, "God Taught Me!" And your life will never be the same!
